The house on Tavelweg was built in 1906 and renovated at the end of 2015/beginning of 2016. The owner and host lives on the ground floor and first floor, while the Bed & Kitchen is located on the second floor, with a double and a single room for guests from all over the world. Bed & Kitchen means that you can prepare your own meals in the kitchen on the same floor (breakfast is not served). A bakery is located less than 100 meters from the house and a small grocery store, VOI Filiale Schosshalde, is a five-minute walk away. If you want to indulge yourself, I can recommend Brasserie Obstberg, which is practically across the street from the house. The guest floor also features a shower and a bathroom with a toilet. During the warm months, the garden is a perfect place to relax, which you are welcome to share with others.
Please treat the old house and neighbors with respect. Bed & Kitchen is intended for people who appreciate refined accommodation and have left their wild party years behind. The entire house is a non-smoking area.
Tavelweg is located in the idyllic Obstberg district, which despite its proximity to the city center, is very quiet. The street name honors the Swiss-German poet Rudolf von Tavel. The Bear Park on the banks of the Aare River can be reached with a ten-minute walk. It is a good starting point to explore the city of Bern and its numerous sights. The six-kilometer-long Lauben (arcades), one of the longest covered shopping promenades in Europe, is an unmistakable feature of Bern’s old town. Also, ten minutes on foot from the house is the Rose Garden – a generously designed park with a beautiful view of the old town and the Aare loop. It has many small cozy corners and is also an idyllic oasis to recharge your batteries. Architecture and art lovers will enjoy the Zentrum Paul Klee, which can be reached by bus in two minutes. It is built according to the plans of Renzo Piano and includes an extensive collection of the life and work of the artist Paul Klee.
You can reach Tavelweg from Bern main station by taking bus number 12 towards Paul Klee Zentrum. Get off at the Tavelweg stop and turn into Tavelweg (follow the sign for „Brasserie Obstberg“). After around 150 meters, you will reach Bed & Kitchen – it is located on the left side. The bus ride through Bern’s main streets takes ten minutes and gives you a first impression of our beautiful city. During your stay, you can use public transportation in the city of Bern (zones 100 & 101) for free. To do this, download the „Bern Welcome“ app and activate your ticket using the code 24 hours before your arrival. This way, you can already benefit from the free public transport when you arrive.
If you arrive by car, take the Ostring motorway exit and turn right towards Paul Klee Museum. Follow Laubeggstrasse for 500 meters. At the traffic lights, turn left onto Schosshaldenstrasse. After 230 meters, turn right onto Tavelweg. Bed & Kitchen is located on the left side after 120 meters. The public parking spaces in the neighborhood are subject to the blue zone (no private parking available). You can obtain parking cards for CHF16.00/day at the nearby bus stop.
